Teaching and Learning Styles

During the past four years, I've been teaching Physical Education with 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students. I  feel blessed to be working with students and educating them with movement, being active and enjoying games and activities to raise their heart rate and focus on coordination. I'm looking forward to completing this class and clearing my Physical Education Single Subject Credential.

As a veteran teacher and working either outdoors or indoors, I am also keeping healthy and displaying a love of being active for my students too. Engaging students in our current diverse populations at many schools is an art form that should be embodied by every teacher. Students can sense when a teacher is caring for them and has the passion and desire to lead them to being successful. My teaching and learning styles revealed an even balance and right in the middle for many different personality types. This will benefit my students so I will be able to incorporate teaching strategies that will reach them all. It's important to realize as an educator, every student is unique in their own way, and it is up to us to open their minds to learning.

Personality Style

After taking the Team Technology personality test, my results listed me as an ESFJ. As a veteran teacher, I still continue to seek and develop harmony in relationships with my colleagues and students. My ability to promote cooperation and teamwork on a daily basis leads to a positive educational setting for my students. It's important for me to have all my students hear encouraging and motivating words in a classroom embodying team spirit and interacting collectively. I love the idea of common ground whenever there's a conflict and when an agreement leads to interacting together. Every day of teaching, I display positive energy and mantra that today's class is going to be a good one. I have students model, demonstrate and role play with me on a daily basis with every PE game, activity or lesson. It sure doesn't hurt when laughter and looking forward to a fun and exciting class is within their grasp.

Introduction

Aloha. My name is George Casem. Presently, I'm enjoying teaching Elementary Physical Education to 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students. I teach at two school sites: Scott Lane Elementary (K-5) and Don Callejon School (K-8) in the Santa Clara Unified School District.

This is my 27th year of loving teaching in the elementary school setting.  I have a professional clear Multiple Subject Credential and a Master of Arts in Education in Administration and Supervision. During my career as an educator, I've held positions as an Elementary Principal, Elementary Physical Education Coordinator,  6th Grade District Master Teacher with Stanford Teacher Elementary Program for Potential Middle and High School Teachers and taught Elementary Grades 5th, 3rd, 2/3 Combo and 1st grade.

I've dedicated myself to a career in teaching and have always had the passion to inspire students to be successful and to reach their full potential. I'm a very caring and loving individual.  My students experience and enjoy a classroom environment with a nurturing, challenging, and fun setting.

I've been happily married for the past 14 years and am looking forward to celebrating our 15th wedding anniversary with my wife, Lee in July! We have three beautiful, talented, and intelligent daughters, Ursa (13), Skye (10) and Quillan (8). This upcoming summer we plan on taking another East Coast vacation to visit family and friends in New York City, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania for two and half weeks.

In addition to teaching, I love longboard surfing at various surf spots in Northern California, from San Francisco's Ocean Beach to Santa Cruz's Pleasure Point. When in Hawaii, surfing Waikiki Beach on Oahu and or Hanalei, Kauai are some favorite locations too. During the past fifteen years, I've dedicated one month in the summer to teaching elementary students in a basketball skills and drills class. I'm an avid Bay Area sports fan, following our Golden State Warriors, San Francisco 49ers, Stanford Football, and the San Francisco Giants. Travel around the world, sporting events, concerts and quality time with my family are always cherished and never taken for granted.
